We are thrilled to announce the installation of a photovoltaic system at our facility in Ammeraal Beltech Czech Republic. This step marks a significant milestone in our sustainability journey.

Why solar energy?

Our EFB (European Fabrication Center) and CSC (Customer Solution Center) facilities in Czech Republic consume approximately 1.2 GWh of electric energy annually, which translates to 1.178 tons of CO₂ per year​. To address this environmental challenge and reduce our carbon footprint, we’ve embraced change and introduced a renewable energy system.

What we’ve done

We’ve installed a 459 kWp photovoltaic system on the industrial buildings of EuroFab and CSC. This advanced solar installation is designed to meet the high energy demands of industrial operations, reducing reliance on traditional energy sources.

By utilizing clean, renewable solar power, the project will significantly lower operational energy costs while also supporting sustainability goals.

What we expect

The PV system is designed to deliver measurable results:

Annual electricity production: 430 MWh of clean, renewable energy.

CO₂ reduction: Cutting emissions by 422 tons per year.

–  Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) compliance: making our business more environmentally friendly and sustainable.

This initiative will cover a substantial portion of our energy needs, significantly reducing our reliance on traditional energy sources while contributing to global efforts to combat climate change.

A partire dal 1° novembre 2024 sarà attiva la nuova linea bus 503, che collegherà la stazione di Osteria Nuova (Sala Bolognese) a Calderara di Reno, servendo anche tre aziende del territorio: Bonfiglioli Group, S.I.BO e Ammeraal Beltech. 

Questo progetto è frutto di una collaborazione pubblico-privato all’interno di #clubPRO, un’iniziativa che coinvolge la Città metropolitana, il Comune di Bologna e le principali aziende per promuovere soluzioni di mobilità sostenibile. Dopo una sperimentazione avviata nel 2022, @TPER ha progettato la linea in base ai dati sugli spostamenti casa-lavoro dei dipendenti.

 Il servizio, cofinanziato dai Comuni di Calderara e Sala Bolognese e dalle tre imprese, avrà un investimento complessivo di oltre 320mila euro e sarà attivo fino a dicembre 2026. 

Inoltre, le aziende hanno aderito ad una sperimentazione per migliorare la mobilità intermodale del personale, creando un network strategico con enti locali e TPER. È stata anche introdotta la figura del mobilità manager di prossimità per rappresentare le esigenze delle aziende e favorire connessioni su temi comuni.

The future of the industry

Sustainable thinking is the foundation of our brand, and we always consider it. The newest concept we are happy to introduce is the key to revolutionising the world of belting as we know it. During their intense life cycle, belts can be damaged or worn down by hard usage, and, after some time, rendered useless. At the end of this cycle, belts are thrown away as they have no further application. But what if that was not the end of their journey?

The concept of recycling is no longer a novelty, but the idea of recycling conveyor belts and reusing the polymers as products in corrugated applications – is something a little different.

How does it work?

The concept of Circle Links is split into three steps. First, we collect the damaged and worn-down belts instead of disposing them. This part of the process assumes that the old belts do not contribute to the waste littering our planet, but instead, they are given a second life. Next, we use the patented technology for plastic resin sorting to recycle the belt. Finally, the recycled polymer material is reused in a new link with up to 100% recycled material.

Through recycling and reusing the polymers in new belts and products, we are ensuring that the plastic materials do not pollute our planet, but instead are given a second life. One of the most significant challenges in the bakery industry is heat resistance. In this industry, it’s not enough that conveyor belts are efficient and meet hygienic standards. They also need to withstand constant heat and operate without delaminating. When temperatures are elevated, traditional belts often falter due to degradation, maintenance issues, and safety concerns.  

That’s why we came up with the idea for the Duratemp belt. It’s designed to perform flawlessly at constant temperatures of 115°C and withstanding heat spikes up to 130°C. Our heat-resistant compound has been constructed to resist the browning effect better than other thermoplastic belts on the market.

Although Duratemp’s crucial feature is withstanding high temperatures, it does not mean we have forgotten about food safety. Why is belt disinfection necessary?

Belt disinfection is extremely important for several reasons. First, it improves the level of hygiene and product safety. A clean belt reduces the risk of contamination, which is of utmost importance in the food and pharmaceutical industries.

Regular and proper cleaning also helps to maintain the belt in good condition, eliminating frequent replacements and repairs. By removing dirt and debris, you extend belt life and reduce maintenance costs over time.

This leads to another advantage – optimal performance. A clean belt ensures effectiveness and prevents slippage, tracking issues, and other problems that could disrupt production.

Last but not least, regular cleaning improves the safety of your team. A well-maintained belt reduces the risk of accidents and injuries in the workplace.

The difference between cleaning, sanitation, and disinfection

Before we dive into specific belt cleaning methods, let’s first focus on the differences between terms that are often confused with one another, namely cleaning, sanitation, and disinfection.

Cleaning means removing unwanted substances, such as soil, dirt, infectious agents, or other impurities from the belt.

Disinfection is the process of killing harmful bacteria and other pathological agents to obtain a microbe-free environment. When you disinfect, you take up actions to eliminate dangerous bacteria either through disinfectants or heat.

Sanitation is often used interchangeably with disinfection, but their meaning is not the same. Sanitation involves using sanitiser, a chemical agent that reduces the number of microbes to a safe level. While disinfection eliminates microbes altogether with their spores, sanitation only limits their amount.

Before sanitising or disinfecting your belt, you must clean it first. Sanitation and disinfection are the final operations, performed on a clean belt.

Types of conveyor belt sanitation systems

Belt sanitation can take place either off the line or on the line. In the former case, you dissemble the belt from the conveyor, and in the latter, the belt stays on the conveyor. On-line sanitation can take place while the conveyor is operating. The belt goes through the system of clean-in-place stations (CIP stations) designed for dry or wet cleaning.

Dry cleaning stations use rotating motorised brushes and/or scrapers. Choose durable scrapers to ensure the highest level of hygiene and food safety and prevent the risk of foreign body contamination. A good example is the UltraScraper made of solid abrasive-resistant polyurethane material. The scraper lip is metal detectable and relies on ion technology fostering antimicrobial properties, reducing bacterial buildup, and improving food safety. Unlike rigid scrapers, UltraScraper is equipped with a soft lip that follows the true surface of the belt and lets it pass smoothly through itself without incurring damage to both the belt and the scraper extending their lifetimes.

Wet CIP stations use spray jets or steam nozzles, which can be fixed or mobile. Mobile nozzles very often move in a circular pattern to distribute the liquids evenly over the entire surface of the belt. Fixed nozzles, on the other hand, concentrate their impact on one particular area and thus might damage the belt surface.

You can also clean your belt manually, however, it’s more labour- and time-intensive than automated solutions.

How to choose a suitable detergent?

To clean a conveyor belt, you use a detergent of a certain density or dilute it with water. Because cleaning, sanitation, and disinfection of working areas may be frequent to ensure, for example, a high level of food safety, automated water and detergent mixing systems are often used. They are equipped with valve control units to mix water, chemicals, and disinfectants at the desired proportions. The mixture thus prepared automatically fuels the system.
